Post subject: Third party themes not working in W7 Ultimate 64bits
New postPosted: Sat Mar 27, 2010 5:04 pm

Hi guys,
I have the issue mentioned in the subject.
This happened after windows made some updates. I uninstalled the patcher (UxStyle Core 64 bits 13 jul), rebooted the PC and reinstalled it, no result.
Can anyone help?

Thanks a bunch!

Can you system restore to a point before the updates installed?
If so, do that, uninstall the theme patcher, re-install the updates and re-install the theme patcher.

The problem with these theme patchers is that they mod system files, when Windows updates it may need to use these files. If the system sees that the files have been modded, it'll more than likely replace them with default copies (much like sfc /scannow)

If you follow these steps, you will get everything working again. Let us know if you have any questions about the process described above.

That should have resolved everything by using the last good install......

I followed all of them, even reinstalled windows.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Professional x64 on 2 PCs
The mistake I did at the last install was to set the Updates to be installed automatically but after restart (knowing that the files were updated and original) i installed the patcher, first the UxStyle x64. It didnt work, then the Universal theme patcher, still no go..
I'm not a newbie and this really stretches my nerves...
And I cant keep the PC not updated just to have a nicer desktop (even though I dont think is the case, XP got updated hundreds of times and it still ran 3rd party themes without issues)

If you reinstalled Windows and this is still happening then i suggest either using a different patcher, or not, as the case may be.
Thank god you don't think having a nice theme installed outweighs keeping the PC up to date....it doesn't.

There are alternatives to keeping desktop clean and neat...I just don't mess with desktop too much...I like quality and efficiency.....

I just found third party desktop enhancement to be an issue, but for many, it works fine...getting rid of it, is not fine...just depends....because I remember when a file is corrupted, or can't remove it...just install that same program back on there, then follow through with REVO uninstaller...that way, it goes straight to the registry string removal.....

Just my two cents...
