Thanks guys, I've found my shutdown problem. I just disabled some of my start up programmes, now I can shutdown in about ten seconds. No bugs no malware etc, etc, etc,

Sorry guys, I should have informed you much earlier. The problem was solved some time ago but I've just been sent an email from Mintywhite to say I haven't been on the website lately, so I thought I would, then logged into my posts and see I didn't mark this one as solved.(naughty of me). The problem with my slow shutdown was a faulty brand new external drive that I'd just bought from P.C. World. Needless to say they changed it right away.

Just curious... How did you determine that it was a faulty external drive that was slowing your shutdown ...?

I disconnected the drive and the computer was O.K. so I took the drive back to shop for exchange.
