New postPosted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 1:22 pm

I have just bought a new computer (two weeks ago) but I find it is taking some time to shut down. I timed it this morning and it was 130 seconds, which is much longer than my other machine. I think there is a way to cure this but can't remember. Any ideas please.

Hi dougy

Download and install MalwareBytes Free and update it, then reboot into safemode and run a full scan, then check the log for any infections, then select them all if any and delete them, then reboot into normal mode and then run another full scan.

Also download Ccleaner and clean up your computers windows temp files/internet cache etc....

then report back with an update and if need be we can take a deeper look into the issue here.

Also if you have programs installed that you dont use, what we call "bloatware" then choose to uninstall them.

Thanks BUGSY but that sounds more like an advert. I really think there is an easier way.

What I mean is BUGSY, the computer is only three weeks old and has Norton security installed. It's just that you make it sounds as if the machine is full of bugs. I know that I have read somewhere that you can adjust something in a programme to adjust the shutdown time.

Hi UVAIS, I'm using WINDOWS 7 Home Premium. Don't quite understand what you mean by the P.C. configuration. Please explain.

Because it has norton installed it doesn't mean it is full proof from virus's.

if it is not the amount of "bloatware" you have installed there might be some other issues going on like "virus's" you say the computer is couple of weeks old. a 2 week old computer should not need "tweaked" for faster shutting down time.

New laptops (not sure about desktops) usually have lots of junkware installed from the manufacturer.
You can try PC Decrapifier (free for personal use).
