Post subject: Service Pack Install ??
New postPosted: Sat Jun 23, 2012 11:32 pm

Hi
Just joined and cannot find anything on this so here goes:
Got W7 Home Premium, and about two weeks ago Upgraded to Office 2010 and replaced fee Avast with Paid Norton 360V6.
Started getting all sorts of strange things like computer just freezes or monitor turns off and goes blank.
When this happens need to turn setup off at Power Outlet as it will not turn off on the CPU itself.
Then got Blue Screens and auto shutdowns etc- finally see message as Bad_Pool_Header
Got RegZooka. Ran it etc. Not much difference, still unexpected shutdowns.
Spent time updating drivers etc.
There is one install for Windows7 Service Pack 1 for 64 bit based systems (KB976932).
It will not install (ERROR Not Found (0X80070490).
Download Systems Update Readiness Tool (KB947821).
Looks like it installed and is OK.
Try to install Service Pack 1.
Says it installs OK, now restart etc.
Upon actual restart process it says "Failure configuring Service Pack - Reverting Changes"
WHAT should i do? Any fix for this? Do I need SP1? WHAT is the answer please?
Thanks
Brian

Thanks for the info.
Been working on this.
Tried all that and more, but to no avail.
I looked up error 0x80070490 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044 ) and it says "you might receive error code 0x80070490 if the Component -Based Servicing (CBS) manifest is corrupted".
WOW - What does that mean?????
The resolution has Method 1 and Method 2.
Method 1 is run the System Update Readiness tool - already done that. did not fix.
Method 2 is perform a repair installation of Windows.
I am still searching for any possible disc of Windows that came with computer purchase.
If not - Any Suggestions as this seems the only way out of my situation.
Thanks again for your help.
Brian

go to your windows update and see which one failed then uninstall it rebbot and try again to install, you can also perhaps download the package to desktop and instalmanually.
