Post subject: What can I do to speed up my internet?
New postPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2011 5:50 am

Since June, my otherwise "works well enough" Internet has been performing awesomely, but as of last weekend, it's slower than ever :( I've cleared cookies, reinstalled the latest version of IE my OS will allow, as well as FireFox AND Chrome, ran the Full System AntiVirus scan (I have Microsoft Security Essentials if that helps) and have defragged my hard drive, all with virturally no change in performance :( I don't know much about it, as far as what kind of Internet we have, other than it's a 2-Wire device (I believe Broadband).

2-Wire devices? Do you mean that you coupled two Ethernet into a NIC for a second computer? I have seen this used in the past but it isn't always recommended unless you have a Fall-Over type of network.

I found this site to be very helpful, @ SpeedGuide.net

Have you tried updating to the latest NIC driver? What OS are you using? Are you using Static or Dynamic?

Let us know..

There is also an interesting article here also on how to increase your internet speed

Don't know if this works as I am dubious about things like this and would advice taking this up with your broadband provider and ask them why they are 'capping' your internet down speed and up speed.

there is nothing you can do that you already have not done it all depends how many people are on the same time you are and how many people in your area have the same internet. The only thing you could try is see if you internet provider has faster internet.

While partial of your post may be true but ultimately, not 100%. The commands to increase throughput can increase some speed through the pipe. Most people's browser are probably congested with CACHED files, failed to Flushdns and a bunch of Add Ons can decrease speed as well...

It can depend largely based on the ISP's throughput, its services and as you noted could be congested by the populated areas such as people connected at once, finally, who knows if the site is having a bad network congested or even being DoS (Denial of Attack). Another could be a hijacked system that failed to provider consistent speed. You can use Wireshark, iPerf, etc.... to measure speed .. There's a multitude of things you can try to perform... So, next time, don't pretend to give DEFINITE answers that is viable... try to reword what your saying next time...

Clear cache and temp will help you speed to be increased.
