Hey all,

Just a quick one today, I'm building a PC for a relative that is going to be used for (cough) legitimate (cough) media storage. To this end it will have 7 HDD's and a BD Burners.

I'm taking the AMD Athalon II X4 620 out of an older PC but will be using new case, PSU, Mobo, and assorted HDD's and possibly my old 9800gt. Down the track maybe a SSD but for now this is it.

I've found a good case that can fit it all in, really good mobo but I'm just a bit iffy on the PSU. The way the watts etc work is quite confusing in the end. The PSU calculators are all over the shop leaving me with no idea on what I really need to run it. I'd rather a higher quality PSU but if I need a higher wattage my range shrinks dramatically. I found a decent price for a Corsair CX500m so if a 500w would do that would be what I would go for. If a 600w is needed then a Corsair GS-600. Worst comes to worse it would be a CX750M (reason they're all Corsair is they seem to be good quality and my computer shop is having a clearance on Corsair stock.).

So what would the bare bones wattage be for the CPU, HDD's, BD Player? With the 9800gt? With the SSD?

since that would be just an "ordinary" PC, the only exception would be the 7 hard drives and i assume that there will be no water cooling nor an insane number of fans you could use an average PSU of 400 to 500 Watts.
