Post subject: A light WORD doc
New postPosted: Fri Nov 30, 2012 12:06 am

My old PC is slowing down. I need something light to open my (mainly) word docs. Right now (esp. if other software is going) a word document takes quite a while to open
Do any of you know small light programs that do the job (faster)

Thanks

its a dell vostro 420 (I am never buying dell again)

4 Gb RAM

My previous PC crashed and I needed a new one quickly, I borrowed a friends computer and ordered it online, I was surprised at its size! (I lived in the middle of nowhere so got it delivered, I learnt my lesson)

Has the computer always been running slow with Win 7?
If computer is working okay and has sufficient resources (RAM, CPU & hard disk free space) Word should not take long time to open.
If you are planning to try and keeping & using it for awhile, I suggest investigating possibility of a RAM upgrade.
If motherboard has 4 slots, then you can go to a max of 8 GB. I've seen discrepancies on max amt of RAM. Some sites say 4 GB others 8 GB.
As well, run disk clean-up, defrag hard drive; scan for spyware & viruses. I suggest Malwarebytes for spyware scan. What anti virus are you using?

Thanks for the reply
I have Norton Internet security, and regularly do defrag and Ccleaner as well as Glary Utilities from time to time
No, it used to be much faster

Sorry guys, just joined this conversation and it looks like someone is having trouble with Word taking a long time to open. Well, I have the same problem with Word. I have a powerful machine but it still take a while compared to other programmes to open.
