I just reformatted a Gateway 3200S for my neighbor. Everything except sound; more specifically "Multimedia Audio Controller" succeeded. Gateway offers 4 different audio drivers-none of which solved the little yellow exclamation mark. I checked the Bios, it is updated. I have no idea why this Gateway will not allow Windows to install the audio device. This is not a Windows problem. Any ideas on how to get an audio device to install on this outdated machine? XP Home Edition SP 3

I am pretty sure it will be the soundMAX Audio card that is installed, Open up the case and remove the sound card and then make sure it is clean free from dust/fluff etc... re insert the sound card securely making sure it is a snug fit then check the device manger for any issues with the sound driver....
