Is there any way i can prevent gmail from updating the contacts names?
I have cleaned my contacts recently and given them proper names but what i see next day is some contacts names have been automatically updated to some thing else
Like i updated a contact name as anil but now after one day its showing some thing like ********** *>.<*a PrOuD.......
is there any way to stop this

and as my mobile contacts are linked to gmail it's been badly hit by this

but the main problem that i am facing is not with the contacts creation
but there names get automatically updated and that screws my mobile contacts names also
in both the links i can't find some thing related to that

Make sure you have no duplicate contacts in the "My Contacts" & "All Contacts". Also note that if you use Picasa, this can & will change contact info based on the info supplied there.

Have you turned off SYNC in the My Account under your Google Account? If you want it to stop updating your contact, go to My Account, select your Google account and uncheck the CONTACT this will prevent updates.

Many times the Google Duplicator doesn't always see the duplications of contacts, but it's effective at most points. I do them manually, and many times I have to merge them together within the Google Contact that Stu gave you the link... You can also see this in and within the Contacts of your Google Mail...

What you do when you find duplications even when Google was not able to find them, you will have to do this manually... so start selecting the emails to which you find duplicated... after making the selections.... Click on MORE on the far right of the list of function in Contacts... Click MERGE... Viola... done.. unless you have several.. you repeat until they are all normal within the confines of your contacts...

If you want to SYNC your phone re-enable it by checking the CONTACT to SYNC between your Google account and your Android.
