I'm looking to buy a desktop in the 400$-500$ price range and was wondering what would be a good buy and if it mattered if I had i3 or an i5 processor.

Hi and welcome to the forums,
Few questions before we can help you out. Firstly, what is the main purpose in this desktop? Any gaming or video editing? Secondly, will you be building this PC yourself or buying it prebuilt? Also, will you be needing a monitor and keyboard/mouse, and if so will it be included in that price?
With a bit of info like that me or someone more qualified should be able to give you a hand.
