I got win 7 the day it was released but I am sitting on the fense this time

why? I wasn't happy with Vista but I am with win 7

.... for those who have upgraded, I would be interested in how you rate it?

I'm not sure. It looked fairly easy until I tried to uninstall a program that wasn't compatible with Windows 8. I love the idea of using my touch screen on my desktop since 8 is supposed to be geared to touch. I still haven't been able to uninstall or upgrade DisplayLink Core Software. I tried everything I could think of for about 6 hours. I really can't afford to pay for a computer tech after buying the program. It was supposed to be inexpensive. Not now.

Windows 7 is great, combined with Windows 8, it is the best operating system to date. I too thought it was a flash in the pan. It kind of grows on you with use. Got an I Pad and found touch screen was the way to go. Will now be upgrading to a touch screen laptop with Windows 8. I believe for me it will be the ultimate combination of portability, communication and hardware. My recommendation, don't be afraid to use Windows 8. As for all your software compatability, if it don't fit it won't ship. Reason your moving on into a new App generation format and software must adapt.
Boot Up and Enjoy!

I think they had a tablet and a mobile phone in mind more than a desktop when developing it. :)
