Post subject: Windows 8 DP with developer tools USB installation
New postPosted: Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:30 pm

Hello!

I've been encountering a strange problem when trying to create bootable USB from Windows 8 Developer Preview with the developer tools. (I got 8gb memory stick not until today.)
Whenever I try to extract the .iso to the stick, it says that there's not enough space in it.
I'm a bit clueless what should I do, could you guys help? I want the developer tools because that seems to be the only way to create tile applications.

Thanks in advance!

Failed again, it says there's not enough space on the disk... Never thought that this would be so hard to get under 5gb file to fit in 8gb memory stick :D

It's possible it's trying to pre-allocate 4+ GB of space for transfer (I'm not sure what zip program you use) and it's failing because your USB is formatted as FAT32.

Try:

1. Copy ANY file to the USB drive to make sure it's writeable
2. Delete file
3. Extract the ISO to a folder; copy contents of folder to USB

Let us know how it goes.

For this post the author Stu has received gratitude : Batupata

To add; maybe you could try formatting the stick to NTFS. Has worked for me in the past.
