Post subject: Can't make a bootable usb drive to install windows 8 64 bit
New postPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2012 12:47 am

At the moment I am running windows 8 32 bit release preview. I decided to install windows 8 pro 64 bit. I was making my 8 GB usb drive bootable with 64 bit version of windows 8 using windows 7 usb/dvd tool. After copying had ended, windows 7 usb/dvd tool showed me a message that said it couldn't run the bootsect. So eventually the usb drive wasn't bootable. I tried several times but got the same result. I can't really identify the problem. I tried to make the usb bootable with the 32 bit of release preview and it worked fine. Why? Should there be any problem because of 64 bit windows 8?

How do I make my usb drive bootable with windows 8 pro 64 bit on my current system (32 bit windows 8 release preview)? Can it be done using windows 7 usb/dvd tool?

Try this :)

Open CMD as Admin and type these commands

1. DISKPART

2. LIST DISK

3. SELECT DISK 1 (replace the number with disk number of your PD)

4. CLEAN

5. CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

6. SELECT PARTITION 1

7. ACTIVE

8. FORMAT FS=NTFS (This can take a while)

9. ASSIGN LETTER=U (OR ANY WHICH IS FREE AND YOU LIKE)

Than Mount 7 or Vista ISO as K Drive and than type this command as Admin

K:\BOOT\BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 U:

After this Copy/Extract all content from .ISO to your PenDrive

That's It (Please Post Result)

Well this problem arises when you try to make a bootable 64 bit OS from a 32-bit OS and more easy way to solve this problem would be to download bootsect.exe file from Microsoft site and copy it in the folder which contains the windows usb/dvd tool and then make the bootable usb, it will not give an error again.

Regards
