How To Check Your Windows 7 Licence Information

This is an easy way to check your Windows 7 licence information using the command prompt, especially handy if you're using an evaluation copy of Windows 7

NOTE: Using winver alone doesn't necessarily display the correct expiration date, nor the license status

1. Open a command prompt by pressing the Winkey+R, typing cmd into the address bar and hitting enter.

2. In the command prompt type;
slmgr and hit enter.

A Windows Script Host will pop up informing you of an invalid combination of command parameters.
In the script host you'll be shown Global Options, Advanced options, Volume Licensing: Key Management Service (KMS) Client options, Volume Licensing: Token-based Activation Options & Volume Licensing: (KMS) Options.
For most, the global options will do. The most frequently used command will be to check the licence status and expiration date.

3. To display the current license information type into the command prompt;
slmgr /dli and hit enter.

Image

4. To display detailed information on the current license type into the command prompt;
slmgr /dlv and hit enter.

Image

5. To display the expiration date for the current license type into the command prompt;
slmgr /xpr and hit enter.

If an evaluation copy of Windows is being used, the rearm command may be used up to three times to extend the grace period. Grace period, and rearm counts are displayed by using slmgr /dlv

6. To rearm Windows and extend the grace period, in the command prompt, type;
slmgr /rearm and hit enter.

7. Restart your system to apply the changes.

@ dmichel123, I suggest you uninstall Windows, reinstall and activate legitimately. I can't see the pictures, they're too small. But I'll assume that you've tried to 'crack' the activation on build 7600?
If that's the case, reinstall. Also, where did you get 7600 from? The ISO i've got doesn't carry the desktop watemark nor do any others i've heard of :?

@ d6k5d3, Where do you get suck?

The thing is, mine didn't have the watermark until I checked it per your instructions. I promise. I'm going to stick with this until it stops working. I still like XP better I think.

This is amazing! A few days ago, I got a ghost message (I just made that up) that I needed to backup my hdd because this was an evaluation copy and would expire in 9 days. It has been approximately 9 days and nothing has happened. In the first place I did not know that I had an evaluation copy. I bought it when it was first released and got a cut rate to buy the pre-release ($50.00 if I recall) I had no idea that it was anything other than a full license.
So I have done all the things to check my license and I find that it expires 11-30-2011 and that i can rearm 4 times. My question is: should I wait until closer to 11-30 or do it now while i know how to do it or what?

You could do it now, but the new grace period will start from now. You've got a couple of months, i'd wait.
(or schedule a task to execute the command for then)

I did some checking around and found out that the evaluation copy came when I updated to sp1 (beta). You live and learn - don't put beta on an important computer. So to fix the problem, I went to control panel, remove programs and uninstalled it. After two or three restarts, the watermark was removed. I did winver and the sp1 was gone. I tried windows update, but it hasn't decided that I need SP1 yet so no upgrade to SP1 until Microsoft says so, or I get in a hurry again.
