When I first used Vista, the UAC lasted about a week and I turned it off. After not using it for a while I decided to give it a try again and have been using it ever since. It's a little bit of a pain to me, but it doesn't bother me as much as it apparently does everyone else. I am the only user on my laptop also, but the UAC, from what I understand, is to prevent a virus from running any applications. Not to jump off of the subject, but I have Windows Live Onecare. Now that can be a pain. It will ask me whether or not a program can access the internet. I click yes, then the UAC comes up, and then Live Onecare will ask me if the program can access the internet AGAIN. When this subscription is up, I'm changing my anti-virus software.

Don't bother waiting for the subscription to run out lol... just switch now. I know most people want to "get what they pay for" but is the pain OneCare causes worth that money? I'm guessing not. In other related news that will upset you, they are discontinuing OneCare in favor of a free antivirus service I believe this summer. Awesome I know.

YES!! One of the first things I did when I got my new computer was shut off UAC. I find it very annoying.
However, I am a very experienced user on Windows so I know how to avoid the bad stuff. Inexperienced users might benefit from it, though, even if it is a pain (which it is).

I have it switched off on my laptop, but on on my desktop, which other people use. I don't deny UAC is useful -- but not for my personal use.
