rsvr85 - I know what you mean about "Norton" and "barge poles"!! - The small prog you were reffering to is "TweakUAC" I think ....?? - I have DEP switched on and AV too, plus Defender,so maybe I ought to turn UAC off as I am the sole user of the pc in question.

If you can put up with it, leave it on. If it drives you insane (like most people!) then turn it off. As long as you're PC savvy and the sole user of it (which i'm sure you are), there shouldn't really be a need for it ;)

@randomchaos i used it before i switched to win7 (it doesn't work on 7) and it doesn't contain any malware or other stuff. It just adds "remember my answer" box on uac screen

BTW the norton 09 is way different than any previous norton version ;) (08,07 and 06 were rubbish...)

@ Sqyber - Ok Thanks for that. :) - But I read some of the articles on the Norton Community Forums http://community.norton.com/norton/board?board.id=uact ..... some said they had problems uninstalling this tool plus there were a few other issues associated with this tool. :?

I switched UAC of after 2 days. It was either that or go mad.

Viruses: in 20 years of computing I have had 1 virus which came by email.

Viruses are written by anti-virus companies.

Most of the time I rum my PC without firewall.

Greetings

Well ...... after much deliberation on the Vista UAC feature and reading lots and lots of Tech forums on various sites on this subject I decided to use TweakUAC. http://www.tweak-uac.com/home/ - I didn't feel entirely comfortable disabling the UAC feature completely in Vista itself [I always err on the side of caution!!],but the UAC elevation prompts were starting to drive me crazy! ....... :?
TweakUAC is a good "compromise" to the UAC "conundrum" and is only 84kB in size. Also,an icon can be displayed on the Start Menu,Desktop or Quick Launch in the taskbar, enabling you to turn UAC either on or off or in "quiet mode" [I use the quiet mode] - So if anyone is unsure about whether to enable/disable the UAC feature in Vista,I'd recommend this software!
Protected Mode is still "ON" ...... BUT - No more elevation prompts! Yippeeee!!

I do a lot of customization on my laptop, so UAC got really annoying for me, which resulted in it being shut off permanently :D

Haven't regretted it yet.
