Post subject: SOS FROM WINDOWS VISTA USER : MY VISTA WILL DIE IN 5 DAYS
New postPosted: Sat Mar 27, 2010 11:58 am

Daer Colleagues,
I need a very urgent help from you.
I bought a Compaq Presario V3000 Laptop from Reliance Digital, Bangalore, India on 28 May 2008 . The machine came preloaded with Windows Vista Home Basic. The machine was working OK all along . For the past 5 days, I am getting a WARNING MESSAGE telling :

THE PRE-RELEASE VERSION OF WINDOWS HOME BASIC WILL EXPIRE IN 5 DAYS ( as on date : 27th March 2010 ) .BACK UP YOUR FILES AND THEN INSTALL ANY RELEASED EDITION OF WINDOWS .

I am in panic as I do not know how to tackle this issue and I have only five more days to go !
I am having the Key for the Windows Home basic ( as I paid for it while buying the machine )  and also the PRD No . available with me

I have backed up my data on a portable HDD to be on the safer side.

May I request you, my friends on Mintywhite forum, to kindly help me URGENTLY .

Thanking you,

Devadoss Eswar.

Hello vanaja1952 and welcome to Windows Forums :D

It was a good move backing up your data, nice work!

To establish the licence status of the machine, see this thread and post your findings (the title says Windows 7 but it's the same for Vista i think).

I also faced the same problem on my Sony Laptop. The installation was through the image DVD which came with Laptop.
I activated the VISTA using the key on the sticker on my Laptop, and now it is OK.

thank you very much for this useful input.
'My vista is OK now. However, now and then, a window pops up with the message that there is only zero hours left and that I have to back up all my data ! It looks funny , but unavoidable as I can not get this pop up removed ! Do you have any idea how to overcome this ? Thanks again .

I suggest resetting the licence status of the machine and legitimately re-activating it.
