While i was trying to create space on my laptop..ps XP is installed there..Anyway i think i sent critical files for loading into the other partition and i cudnt load to start up again..So i had to use the recovery CD that came with my Acer laptop..I hav a compaq loaded with VISTA ..and unfortunately for me it didnt come with a recovery CD..But it seems like it has a part decidated to the recovery..can i use that part if i loose my files to reinstall the OS..or should i create one my self..and which type of CD should i buy for creating one..My Laptop is Presario c700..reply thanks.

If you have a recovery partition, use this to revert the system back to 'factory settings (your files will be lost if the OS resides on the same partition as your data)'. As for which CDs DVDs to use, please consult your DVD drive's manual.

In addition, use a USB device, small enough to hold the Recovery CD on USB, that way, you do not have to worry about SCRATCHES or object scratching the surfaces.

I just thought of this idea, because I did this with my LEGIT copy of Win 7 Ult. 64bit to a 4GB USB... worked great but never done it on a Recovery CY to USB..

You may have received an actual Windows Vista DVD with your purchase or a Recovery Disk created by the computer’s manufacturer,or maybe your Laptop came with a Recovery Partition on the hard disk in lieu of a Recovery Disk. While a Recovery Disk or a Recovery Partition will allow you to restore your computer to the original settings from the manufacturer, chances are you will not be able to use it to repair your Windows Vista installation. For that, you will need an actual Windows Vista DVD that contains the Windows Recovery Environment; without the tools contained in the Windows Recovery Environment, you cannot repair your current installation.
