Post subject: Should I reinstall Vista? Posted: Mon Sep 26, 2011 12:27 pm |

One, MS Office 2010 will not open Word files because I cannot remove an Office 2007 trial. (At least, without the elaborate procedure I see online, which I do not trust to work). Two, each time I start my computer the system tells me to install my HP printer software, which has been installed twice. Three, it takes forever to load, and I do not use that many programs. Four, well, the list goes on. I am at the point where I feel it would be better and easier to reinstall the Vista operating system instead of attempting to root out each problem. Would you agree that this is the best route? Should I use the computer itself or the disks I made when I bought the computer? What steps should I take beforehand? What should I watch out for? Where is a good post or article that I could reference? Thank you for any help.

Yeah Windows 7 would be a good move seeing as the prices have came down a lot over the last 12 months, you can get Windows 7 Ultimate Full Version for around £150 on places like amazon and play.com.
I don't think Vista will be around like Windows XP was and is LOL although Windows 7 will be here for a very long time to come.

Guy takes his Ford Focus to a garage as it has developed some odd behaviours. Guy @ garage - "Buy a Ferrari, it's much better than a Focus."

I’ve only done this once before. Be prepared, it takes a long time. Research how to reinstall the operating system on your particular computer. I wasn’t able to use Acer’s eRecovery so I had to reinstall from the Acer website. Get together everything you’re going to lose: For reference, screen shot each user’s desktop and screen shot the Programs and Features list view. Abelssoft’s KeyFinder (Please leave a tip.) was a great help by listing programs and keys. Print these references. If your browser(s) are not synced to an external account, make notes of add-ons, extensions, etc. that you will want again, and download bookmarks to your documents folder. Back up all documents, pictures, and music for each user, online or external drive. Hopefully you have all that organized. By the way, at least on my computer, files saved to the desktop are not in the Documents folder. I did not have to deal with games or contacts so you’re on your own there. Reinstall your operating system and update as needed. Those were my high points. I wish I had taken better notes. Good luck.
