I recently helped my aunt restore her computer back to factory settings, which came with windows vista basic. Then I tried to install Norton but it says my operating system was not compatible. I updated to service pack 1, which it says it is compatible with. Still no luck, I updated it to service pack 2, and it does not work either. Norton says it is compatible with Windows Vista Basic service pack 1 and 2 but it doesn't work with her computer.

Yes I understand what you say. But people who are not quite "pc savvy" think that you have to use a "paid for" AV for it to be effective [such as Norton, McAfee or Kaspersky ....etc, etc], when in fact free AV programs will suffice [e.g. MSE and Avast] ...... I use MSE personally and before that I used Avast, both are good in my opinion.

(IMHO) Use Windows 7/8 and get rid all errors ....i can't understand .; why you are still using Vista
Removing Good Antivirus is not Solution ; Removing Buggy OS is Solution

is anybody really gonna answer me? i don't think upgrading is a choice in this case and Norton is already payed for. It worked before I restored her computer to factory settings but now it doesn't let me install.
