Post subject: My Start has no Power/Sleep buttons & Need to turn off Sleep
New postPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 1:11 pm

Hi!

Pursuant to my above-referenced subject, I am in a quandry in connection to whether I have accidentally turned on Sleep or Hibernation. My initial installation of WINXP was with my 1998 purchase of my Dell desktop PC, which is still excellent, as I take great care, et al. However, many of the "How To" articles do not suffice as infrequently, such as with this topic, the instructions are met with a lack of navigation access re the missing buttons/landmarks. :?

Consequently, can I beg some advice regarding the above subject matter that will work in concert with the hardware of my older but still magnificently working desktop PC?

As an aside, does anyone have any clue how to restore the print function to Outlook Express? Or, how to stop those incessant IE Script Errors that appear with opening mail in Outlook Express? Perhaps I should consult with the Microsoft Forum for these two issues?

Thanks! :P

On your computer, go to control panel and run Power Options. Click on advance tab. There will be a drop down box that will select the function of the power button. Do you see the standby option in the list? If the option is there, you must see the standby button.

Missing drivers can cause disabling the standby and hibernate options.

Method 1

You may follow these steps and check if the issue persists.

a) Click Start > Run, type ‘cmd’ in the open box.
b) Right click on ‘cmd.exe’ and select ‘Run as administrator’.
c) In the command prompt, type ‘powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies’ & click enter key.
d) Close the command prompt & check if the issue re-appears.

Method 2

You may also check in BIOS (Basic Input Output System) if Advanced Power Management is enabled there.

for outlook express
open outlook espress; open tools; open options; open security tab; uncheck "Block images and other external content in HTML email."

"go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 ole32.dll"

FIx IE
