After spending 15 days with my new Dell XPS Laptop, here are my views. BTW, here are the specs: Firstly, the Laptop is awesome, it surpasses any other laptop I've ever used till date. It is super fast and easily works faster than my needs. the back-lit keyboard is awesome. Not to mention the build quality...all aluminum, it;s super strong. And it's rather future proof with 2 USB 3.0 ports. And really, i like the looks. If anyone is in the market for a new lappy, keep this on your list !

Looks rather chunky for my tastes. How big is the screen? And how much does it weigh? Battery life?
Is this mainly a desktop replacement-style laptop? I already have a dedicated Skyrim machine (read: desktop).
I'm guessing I'll still have to keep my heart set on a Macbook Air.

I'm guessing I'll still have to keep my heart set on a Macbook Air. Mike the screen is available in 3 sizes: 14 , 15.6 & 17 inch. The 17 inch houses a 3D display. my unit is 15.6 inch. I won't say it clunky as the looks are really sophisticated although the curved edges do look a bit blunt. And yeah it's sort of desktop replacement. BTW did I mention the sound? It's terrific ! sounds like a small speaker. It even has a sub woofer. No where near to macbook air when it comes to portability, but it is in a league of it's own. My system weighs ~3kg.Battery life ~2.5 hours (moderate usage) For more macbook pro like look you can count on the Dell XPS Z series. Much thinner however definitely != XPS in terms of performance.

Intel in onboard no? It doesn't seem to be getting used as your dedicated GPU (NVIDIA 540M) is doing all the work?? In effect i don't think it has 2 GPU's!

Right.. ..intel is the on processor one...but it manages aero greatly ! NVIDIA only kicks in when you play a game. Else it's just sitting there silently, thanks to Optimus !

Optimus software looks handy! How does it fare in the "real-world"? Is it noticeable when the onboard graphics switch off and the GPU kicks in?

The 540M is a decent graphics card! Nice laptop man. If I was in the market for a laptop, this would be high on the list. Currently, I'm using a 4-year old VAIO I got in college. Hopefully it lasts 2-3 more years. By then, I'm not entirely sure I'll be looking for another laptop.

Btw, VAIO is my uncle's favorite too !
