What can I do to speed up my PC's internet speed?

XP Pro is up to date
I ran Spybot search and Destroy
I ran AVG anti-virus (no problems found)
I ran RegCure

I'm supposed to have 25/25 MBPS internet speed with Verizon FiOS which was installed 10/19/11.
I'm getting that speed on one PC which is also XP Pro.
However, on this machine I'm only getting 9.6 and 8.5 mbps, down & up.
I even switched router ports between the 2 PCs and changed the cable on this PC.

Verizon sent a repair guy out here yesterday and he could NOT fix my speed.
Trouble with him was he didn't really know much about Windows.

Would appreciate any help I can get on this problem.
Thank you.

Please refer to this thread, as it was already discussed:

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=7672

Also, you did not provide that if your connecting to Hard Line or WiFi.

IMO, they (Verizon FiOS) would not send someone that don't know about windows. It would be because they do not want to touch your system in the events that they may end up screwing up your computer, it would be based on their Policy and Procedure, not because the TECH person don't understand windows.

I have FiOS myself. What speed website do you use?

They like to use this site: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Also, they like to use this as well: http://my.verizon.com/micro/speedtest/broadband/

The problems lies within the Forum Link I gave you on the top... See if they help...

He didn't know how to see what processes were running (Ctrl/Alt/Delete)

"What speed website do you use?"
Both sites you listed

"The problems lies within the Forum Link I gave you on the top... See if they help..."
No help at all

Thank you for replying but so far I still have no solution.

Then perhaps, download the latest driver for your network card... Uninstall the current driver and start over...

Have you checked for Malware? Use Malwarebyte, free... do a Full Scan...Spybot S & D use different types of scans than Malwarebyte.

Try that...

The network hardware is integrated on the motherboard.
Intel® Desktop Board DP55KG

I downloaded Malwarebyte and will try that.
Thank you.

I'll post results.

Installed and ran Malwarebyte.
It cleaned up a few things but when I rebboted and then ran the speed test again,
got the same lousy results.

9.6/9.6 down/up.

Any one got more ideas?

The only way to speed up your internet effectively is to upgrade your broadband or change ISP.

If your computer is clean of any infections and you don't have several program that are effectively using the internet then there is nothing you can do.

Problem finally fixed!
Am now getting 30+ MBPS down and 22+MBPS up.

Went on Intel's chat and the Tech solved the problem right away.
He sent me a link for the latest Ethernet Driver for my Intel motherboard.
This problem is closed.
