 Bikrdad

Hey Guys, Saturday I had a chance to down load Win8, and did. My question is did I mess up by not portioning my hard drive. I don't see where Win 7 is any longer. Can I un-install Win 8. Thanks Bikrdad

In short yes you probably did mess up! ;)
You should have installed Windows 8 onto a separate partition away from your main OS. ie. eg. Windows 7 is on C: and Windows 8 on D:

In your Windows 8 go to diskmgmt.msc (start menu) and send us a screenshot of it.

+1. Your Windows 8 installation overwrote your Windows 7 partition. It's gone. Sorry.

Sure there is, press the Windows Key on your keyboard or click in the bottom left corner - that's the new Start Menu. ;)

Easier - Press WinKey+R, type in diskmgmt.msc and hit enter. Go fullscreen. Press Prt Sc on your keyboard, open Paint and press CTRL+V. Save that picture, reply to the thread and upload it using the TinyPic box below.

Oooooh nasty! You should have split your "C" drive [partitioned it] and THEN downloaded W8 onto the separate partition, thus "dual booting" W7 and W8. As Mike has said, your W7 has gone my friend!

@ Bikrdad ..... You can also take screenshots with the "Snipping Tool" which is a feature of the Windows operating system itself. Go to >> Start Menu/All Programs/Accessories/Snipping Tool. I use it all the time for screenshots [Full screen or partial screenshots]

Getting files overwritten is near impossible to recover, not even a true Forensic Analysis wouldn't recover. Just got to take precautionary steps. However, this is how we learn. Everyone above me in this thread all made valid points. The biggest pet peeves is backing everything up, which many neglected to do so....

no ur not dumb ! what you should do next is critical !
in order to dual boot , i mean for a perfect non conflicted dual boot i recommend :
-Erase Your Win8 Partition
-If On Seperate HDD Erase Your HDD
-1st install in Win7and split ur HDD in 2 partitions , leave the 2nd partition unallocated
-2nd install Win8 on the unallocated disk space and let it create itself with the boot and system partition
