Hey I asking for a little help with enhancing my win XP performance

but i got stuck at the start up step
but did everything else
and my pc still runs slowish
like when i try to play a game the game takes long to load and it sticks alot when i'm playing
so could anyone offer some solutions ?

How long have you been experiencing this slowness with your Windows XP operating system?

I would suggest checking that you have all the "Latest Drivers" installed and also check that you have been installing all of "Windows Updates" as this is very important that you keep up to date on the updates.

Try a small program called "Ccleaner" to help clean up old temp files etc....

Also were you saying you were having trouble on the "StartUp" step? If it is "MSconfig" you are talking about just go to "start" > "Run" and type in "MSconfig" and "Press Enter".

Then go to the "Start Up" Tab then "De select" everything that isn't security Software, so the only thing left enabled in the "Start Up" Tab would be Security Software.

Have you considered Un-Installing any programs or software's that you don't use or need?

Also depending on how long you last Re-Install was for your computer you may want to consider performing a Clean Install to give it a new lease of life.

Are you using service pack 2 or 3?

I have used this site to check the abilities of my pc to run certain games before during or after I had already attempted to play them The site is friendly, non obtrusive and will let you know if you can run most games or not and what "tweaks" might help you play with less annoyances.

Install some of the software's that would enhance the performance of the pc. Some thing like ccleaner would be a better option. Its free software.

First of all told me to get IE 9, but XP cannot have IE9, but still runs on my computer.

I removed quite a few Add-ons and looks that boot time dropped by 1 minute.

For some reason Java 6.0.120 is updated to 6.0.320 last 3 days and still did not complete the update.
Should I do something else to complete update?

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Malware/Virus, etc...

Slowness of one's PC, Mac, etc.. can contribute from Malware that bogs down a system. Use MalwareByte to check that you don't have any sort of Malware infected programs or bug in your Root Directory.

Also, perform a Flushdns in your Command line prompt:

Start > Run > type: "cmd" (w/o quotes) > ipconfig /flushdns

Turn off your Router, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on... (This is a network refresh, in case the speed of your network is slow).

Remember, CCleaner does not get everything out for you, you will need to locate other garbage and redundant data left in your AppData that CCleaner don't get on default settings.

You have the ability to use the AUTO function in CCleaner file, to let it do it automatically. But you can set it manually in the option, to automatically run after it has been rebooted, etc...

You should also use RevoUninstaller's Free version to remove redundant leftover files.

You should always check your root directory to see any odd looking file names that may appear suspicious, which may be contributed to malware and infection that slowed your system.
