New postPosted: Fri Apr 23, 2010 2:44 pm

I had Google software installed a while back, but could anyone help me remove the services is LEAVES behind.

See image:

The Path to executable does not exist, because it was removed when I unistalled the Google software (Chrome).

I've already taken a look in Task Schedular and removed any set tasks that the software left behind.

- Windows 7 Pro. 64-bit

TIA

As culled by Google:

Try this:

1. Click the Start menu on your computer taskbar.
2. Select Run.
3. Enter cmd to open a command prompt.
4. Type cd C:\Program Files\Google\Google Updater to change directories.
5. Type GoogleUpdater.exe -uninstall to uninstall.
6. Restart your computer after you uninstall.

I can't do that.

The system cannot find the path specified

Because the folder doesn't exist.

My bad.....The least you can do is disable it. Why let that one services bother you anyway?

I have several services turned off that was done by defaults. I don't go in there and keep looking at everything.

Just download Process Hacker software, FREE, and watch what is being running in the background frequently.

Again, my bad on my reply about giving you the wrong response.

Cheers

Try this:

To delete Google Update from the registery you do this: Start, Run, Regedit, HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Run and delete the Google Update entry

To delete Google Update from the Services you do this: Start, Run, Services.msc, Google Update, Copy the service name and then go to: Start, Run, and type: sc delete servicename

This can also work with any service you wish to delete but remember that many services are required for Windows to work properly

It looks like it's the answer to your problem

Hi, I'm back. I tried this:
sc delete gupdate

That didn't seem to work.

Also, before doing the above, I tried to delete - It made the description disappear. - Like a Noob, I didn't backup registry beforehand.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\gusvc

From LINK.

I'm still stuck with the Google service.

There shouldn't be any need to touch the registry or delete services (which are both dangerous).

Use system restore to take you back to a know good point in time.

Go to msconfig and disable the service and startup item.

Then open up Task Scheduler > task schedule library and delete all references to Google updater from there.

This is what i do and google update never runs on my machine.

There's no Google services/updater in the Task Scheduler.

Google Updater doesn't run on my system either, but why didn't it get removed when I uninstalled Google Chrome. =/

Guys, and every member of Mintywhite.....

I wanted to apologize for neglecting to warn everyone when making such mods in the registry. As RSVR85 pointed it out, it's dangerous and can wreak havoc on your system, or prevent it from booting, thus gives you more headaches to revive.

However, to my point, its' somewhat necessary if you want to entirely remove the Google Update because Google can be a nuisance.

As a safe practice when making any such Moddings, please back up your registry, have emergency disk back up in the events your computer is unable to boot, ensure you have a Restore Point Created and your OS CD/DVD to go back to the restore point, though it may not even be needed, just in case. One can never be too careful.

It happens to the best of us, even myself.

Regards
Rick

If it doesn't run, why all the fuss?
